- Features: The brow and the
base in front of eyes of the males with winter plumage are
creamy or rusty yellowish brown. The line of chin is gray,
and the ear feathers have gray vertical dappled design on
a yellowish brown ground. The bottom of chin and the throat
are creamy yellowish brown. The back, shoulders, the part
under waist are reddish brown, and the end of them has black
spots. The tail is gray, and the edges of each feather have
a black wide stripe. The wing feathers are dark brown, and
the end has thin edges. The breast and the stomach are yellowish
brown, and the lower feathers covering tail are creamy yellowish
brown. the neck area is yellowish brown with reddish earth
color tint. The brow and the base in front of eyes of the

is light brown, and the ear feathers is creamy with brown
spots. The bottom of chin and the throat are creamy or yellowish
brown. The part under waist and the upper feathers covering
tail form a dark brown horizontal stripes with gray with
reddish earth color tint. The end of the tail is creamy
white and has a black wide horizontal stripe. The wing feathers
are dark brown. The breast and the stomach are dark yellowish
brown and have the dark brown vertical patterns. The beak
is horn color with blue tint, and the base is light whose
end has the black tint.
- Mode of life: They are permanent
residents. They flutter very much and fly in a straight
line. Sometimes they keep in order like a kite on a spot
of 6-15 meter high sky spreading the tail feathers like
a fan and fix their eyes on prey.
- Call: They have a piercing
shriek, "kee-kee-keee" or "kit-kit-kit".
They use the nest made by the Asiatic sparrow hawks or common
buzzards, or they dwell in a sunken hole of a mud-plastered
wall of river in a group.
- Breeding time: The number
of eggs of the same litter is 4-6. The eggs have the dark
reddish brown dappled design on a white ground. It weighs
24-24.5 grams. Usually females brood over eggs for hatching,
but sometimes males brood over eggs for hatching.
- Taste: They have rodents,
moles, small birds, insects, and the reptiles.
- Range: They pass the winter
in Korea, Japan, Hainan Island of China, Indochina, India,
and Malay.
