- Weolmyeong Park located in the downtown is a public recreational
facility and a tourist attraction which has the largest
space in Korea. It has Literary Walk around Susitap Tower
and Natural Ecology Park around Weolmyeong Lake. There is
a mountain with continuing peaks, and the river, the sea,
the field, and the village are seen in the park, which is
worth calling a precious gift of nature.
The forest in the park is full of fine trees, and the peaks
reach to Weolmyeong, Sinchang, Munwha, Nawoon, Soryong,
and Miryong. The lower of Geumgang River and the Western
Sea can be seen from the mountain although it is about 100m
high, and even Janghang and Yeondo Island can be seen as
long as the weather is fine. Oksan lies to the south, Okgu
Plain to the southwest, and Miseong Plain to the westsouth.
The park is covered with pink azalea, yellow forsythia,
snowy cherry blossoms, and red camellia blossoms in April,
and pink royal cherry blossoms and royal azaleas burst into
bloom in May. The mountain is full of the scent of acacia
in June. When you up on the Susitap Tower in the summer
night, the cool breeze from the sea and a beautiful subdued
scene enacted by the glimmering lights of ships coming and
going along the river.
Weolmyeong Park embraces the first reservoir made to supply
to the area in 1912, which has changed into the lake spraying
wet fog in the forest where mountain birds and small animals
quench their thirst. The old trees seem to talk about the
past in the 1,000 year old Eunjeoksa Temple on the foot
of Mt. Seolimsan. Walking along the trails commands a good
view of the town, extensive plain, and the sparkling lights
on the Mangyeonggang River at a great distance. It does
seem to be a gift of nature, which gives us pleasure of
life and open mind.
