- Geumgang Estuary Bank built up in 1990 is 1,841m in length
and has 20 floodgates, and it can hold 130,000,000 ton water.
It is built up to control the flood in and around Geumgang
and provide the industrial complex of more than 40,000,000
pyong area with industrial water, and the four-lane road
over the bank serves as the way to harmonize Jeollabuk-do
with Chungcheongnam-do. Geumgang River meandering between
Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do is seen from the airplane.
The color of water arriving at Gunsan changes into mud yellow,
which makes us realize the meaning of the novel of Chae
Man Sik, Muddy Water. Mullets as big as a man's arm are
jumping in the island for fishes coming and going between
fresh water and sea water, and thousands of rare birds including
swans soar up and fly over the 10,950,000 pyong of area
around Geumgang River in winter, which is a grand sight
with national reputation and is becoming a natural ecology
park.

- Geumgang Estuary: The paradise for
birds
Geumgang Estuary has been a paradise for birds because
it has a lot of food for birds damming an inverse current.
The various permanent residents and seasonal birds such
as swan, mallard, snipe, and oystercathcer come and
live there, and it is a grand sight that they soar up
in a group. The project to make Geumgang Estuary a bird
park for protecting and observing them is being promoted,
and the area around them will be a natural ecology park.
- Geumgang Park£ºGeumgang Park located
near Geumgang Estuary Bank has the area covering 18,000
pyong. There is the Monument in memory of Signal Victory
in Jinpo where General Choi Mu Seon inventing gunpowder
defeated Japanese pirate raiders. Geumgang Park with
sports facilities and wide spaces of grass is a resting
place for families.
- The Monument in memory of Signal Victory
in Jinpo £ºGunsan was frequently invaded by
Japanese pirate raiders because it has been the bread
basket of the country. In A.D. 1380, six years since
King Woowang had started to rule Goryeo Dynasty, about
500 Japanese pirate ships invaded Jinpo Estuary in front
of Gunsan to plunder food. They bound their ships with
ropes together, and some of the pirates kept watch for
the ships while the others plundered and burned all
villages around there. The mountain and the plain were
covered with the dead bodies of innocent people, and
the ground was piled up with grain dropped while carried
to the ships by the pirates. Then General Choi Mu Seon
called out a hundred battle ships with Na Se and Shim
Deok Bu and burned all the pirates ships using the gunpowder
invented by himself. After all, the flames shot high
up in the sky, and there are so many pirates burned
to death with those drowned while sleeping. It is the
very Signal Victory in Jinpo. The Monument was erected
in commemoration of the spirit of the signal victory
as well as in celebration of the 100th anniversary of
opening Gunsan Port.
- Birdwatch Room£ºYou can watch the
various permanent residents and seasonal birds such
as swan, mallard, snipe, and oystercathcer and be informed
in the Birdwatch Room in Geumgang Park.
